Braeswood Redo by ASHELY ANDERSON

You never know what's going to happen when you give a set of plans to an owner whether what you designed will make its debut or will something else emerge.  There is also that time when mildly surprise at the outcome.  This house was that for Me.  I had an idea but the owner had a better one.

Their personality really came through in the execution and I think it's going to be a fantastic project.

House Front

Designed by a prominent Architect in the 60's the house was fashioned in the Mid-Century style.  Low roof lines and expansive Living area overlooking the pool makes this a special house.

The present owners have been in the house for a couple of years and although the house is amazing it had not been updated for more than 20 years and was not conducive to raising a modern family.  They had issues with the room sizes and air conditioning was undersized and the kitchen was dated and although you have these great views off the back of the house the kitchen is rather sequestered. This house was made for entertaining and seeing the kitchen was not important in the 60's as much as it is today.

Former Kitchen

Also you could not see anything from the kitchen.  There was a view to the living area but no connection to the dinning or the back yard.  Having roots in Florida and California they really liked more of an open concept plan.  All the things a Mid-Century should be.

So our 1st Phase was to make the  Kitchen more functional and open it up to the rest of the house giving it more prominence in the daily lives of the owners and their children

The same venthood area with new skylight.  We will reclaim the hood for this project.

I can't wait to see it completed.  The rest of the house will follow.

A sad ending!

A sad ending!

This project was one for the record books.  Completed around Christmas and the result was amazing.  I had the opportunity to enjoy Hannukah here and 6 months later it's all in the front yard due to flooding!  I just pray blessing in this family.  I know it's a time of reflection.  I have been here in this position with my own family.

Long Awaited by ASHELY ANDERSON

After many years of doing things the hard way I have decided to move into the future.  We are only accountable for what we actually confess.  Most of us never actualize our thoughts or dreams for fear of reprisal but today I have taken a giant leap for mankind.  I started a virtual storefront, and I hung my shingle, as they use to say.  I started a Squarespace!  ABA Design is...
